The Kenyan government said it had raised funding to the National Blood Transfusion Service Unit by 738 per cent from KSh 120 million ($1 million ) in the Financial Year 2017/18 to KSh 886 million ($7.5 million ) in the Financial Year 2021/22.

In a statement sent to The Exchange Africa, the country’s ministry of health further indicated that they had been leveraging UHC funds with an additional KSh 700 million ($5.9 million) for blood services.…

According to data availed by the ministry of health, Dolutegravir (DTG) based regimens have high potency, a high genetic barrier to HIV drug resistance, low toxicity, and have fewer drug-to-drug interactions. 

It says that the availability of DTG 50mg film-coated tablets will foster improved adherence among the Children and Adolescents Living with HIV thereby improving treatment outcomes in children and adolescents.

“Evidence supports using DTG as a preferred First line ARV drug for Children and adolescents living with HIV with approved dosing and people co-infected with TB. The donation today adds an impetus to ensure that no child or adolescent living with HIV and has been transitioned to DTG as their current regimen, misses their drugs,” she added.…

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is still affecting more people in Tanzania, as today April 20, the number of people who have tested positive for the virus rose to 254 and 10 deaths, according to the Tanzanian Ministry of Health statement.

The East African nation has seen a rise in the number of cases from April 18 to April 20 hitting 84. Hence, the statement noted that out of 84 patients 16 were confirmed by the health ministry of Zanzibar (a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania).

 The Tanzanian Ministry of Health has announced the presence of the first case of the coronavirus on Monday, March 16.

The case was found in Northern part of Tanzania, on a female Tanzanian patient, 46-year-old, who arrived in the country on March from Belgium onboard RwandAir plane and landed at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) on March 15.

The patient also visited Sweden and Denmark between March 3 and 13, before her return to Tanzania.

Despite Tanzania being prepared with thermal scanners installed in all airports, the patient passed the health checks undetected, as her body temperature was at the normal level, hence—the condition was not detected
