Sourced from 16 countries, these 15 PhD students and 5 post-doctorates embody, through their backgrounds and research subjects, all the diversity and potential of tomorrow’s African science – L’Oreal.

The shortlisted 20 youth had to fight their way through a maze of nearly 330 applications. The submission were sifted through by a jury that was Chaired by Professor Nelson Torto who is the Executive Director of the African Academy of Sciences.

European Union and Tanzania

In the wake of circulating rumours that the European Union (EU) has resolved to withhold 626 million Euros in grant money, Tanzania has gone on the defense and denounced the rumours as false, unfounded and misleading. 

Tanzania’s Ambassador to Belgium, Jestus Nyamanga took to social media to deliver a video response to the ‘unfounded allegations,’ which he described as bias, malicious and meant to stir confusion among the public. 

“There are no talks to impose any sanctions on Tanzania…” he said, and  added allegations purported that the EU Parliamentary Committee session held on November 20 in Brussels had resolved to withhold grant money to Tanzania and was deliberating economic sanctions on the country. 

“This is not true,” the Ambassador asserted, “…the meeting  was a regular session of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and that session did not issue any resolution on Tanzania.”

The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has reassured customers and stakeholders of the China Commercial Bank Ltd. in Dar es Salaam that their interests are safe and secured.

Tanzania reelects Magufuli President

It is five more years for Tanzania’s incumbent president John Pombe Magufuli after he was announced the winner of the 2020 elections last night.

Just a few minutes after the clock ticked 10 PM the Tanzania National Electoral Commission (NEC) Chairman Semistocles Kaijage announced Magufuli’s reelection.

According to NEC, the president-elect racked in 12.5 million votes of the 15 million people that voted (20 million registered to vote).

In an unprecedented and rather unexpected move, in October 2020 US President Donald Trump went ahead and erased Sudan out of the US’ proverbial blacklist of countries that harbour terrorists or support terror groups. 

President Trump, who is not exactly known for his keen favour for Africa, took to Twitter to announce his decision to remove Sudan from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism (SST).
