Congo is rolling out a plan to increase crude oil and gas production ahead of vital negotiations over OPEC production baselines in November. In the latest move, the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has entered into an agreement to provide a $300 million loan to Trident OGX Congo aimed at increasing the country’s crude oil production by 30 per cent. 

The $300 million loan will enhance Congo’s crude oil output significantly within a year, and double gas production in two to three years, effectively stepping up the country’s 2024 output quota.

According to The Citizen, storage capacity construction tender documents, Kenya looks forward to quickly loading cooking gas for truck distribution, which will likely cut demurrage costs.

“LPG storage capacity in Mombasa is limited and huge demurrage is incurred by LPG ships thus affecting the final consumer price of bottled gas,” read part of KPC tender documents” KPC tender document read in part.

As Tanzania continues to domesticate its natural gas and motivate healthy consumption from households to large enterprises, Kenya’s new LPG ambition stands to lower prices for LPG by 30 percent. At the same time, Tanzania looks forward to connecting LPG nationwide.

On a broader scale, gas is relatively cheaper than charcoal. Government reports note that an average cost of a family on energy stands at $51 per month, preferably going to charcoal as an option. Meanwhile, the same family could revert the prices and invest in a 15 kg cylinder of gas sold at $20 (The Citizen).

The LPG industry in Tanzania stands to change for the better as consumption increases. At the helm of introducing new investments in the oil and gas sector, Tanzania’s LPG industry is slated for the best.
